On the production of high frequency board
1. Why is RF material more expensive than FR-4?
RF materials have unique electrical properties (through the use of special resins and fillers), enabling designers to meet the stringent requirements of frequencies above 500 MHz. For example, the DK of these materials is strictly controlled and the dielectric loss is very low. These properties make the materials unique and behave as if the circuit board is a component.
2. How do you deal with Rogers' materials? These materials are divided into two groups: PTFE based materials and thermosetting materials. Thermosetting materials are essentially similar to FR-4, except in drilling and wiring where different feeds and speeds are required compared to FR-4 due to the use of ceramic filler particles. For PTFE based materials, these are "soft dielectrics" and may require special treatment through automated lines, prior to electroplated through hole treatment, and possibly higher lamination temperatures for MLB design. Rogers recommends contacting members of our global technical services team to help you get started before handling these materials.
3. How can we learn more about Rogers' materials?
Visit the technical support center, visit the microwave calculator, educational videos, technical webinars, white papers and conference presentations on various microwave related topics provided by Rogers' technical experts.
4. What are the materials (or specific materials) your customers don't know, but they may be supposed to?
Rogers has always been known as the market leader of PTFE based materials (RT / Duroid ? laminates) and thermosetting glass materials (ro4000 ? laminates). However, now with the acquisition of Arlon in January 2015, Rogers is the global leader in PTFE / glass fiber materials (cuclad ?, ad series laminates).
5. What improvements have you made in the manufacturing process to improve the quality of the final product?
We recently installed an additional ro4000 ? material manufacturing capability at our Shenzhen China plant. The project adopts the most advanced production and quality control technology.
6. The cost of materials is always a problem. Do you expect prices to rise in the next 12 to 24 months?
There are many factors that have influenced the decision of price rise in the past. Therefore, it is very difficult to determine how these factors affect the production cost in the next 12 to 24 months. However, Rogers has been trying to keep our material prices as low as possible.
7. What are the two or three main contents of your materials that you want customers to know?
Rogers is the world's leading supplier of high-quality RF circuit materials, with nearly 50 years of experience, supporting design and manufacturing engineers through our experienced team.
